The Trimester System
The school year is divided into three trimesters. The students will receive
their report cards at the end of each trimester. During the trimester, the
students will attend four weeks each of all three specialties: computers,
P.E., and music. The order in which they will attend the specialties will
depend upon which rotation they are in. Please consult with your child's core
teacher to determine the rotation schedule. The follow is the general curriculum for each of the trimesters.
Trimester One (4 weeks)
Learn about high and low pitch.
Learn about dynamics (p and f).
Learn about tempo (largo and allegro).
Learn solfege (so, mi).
Practice beat and rhythm.
Learn about the quarter note, eighth note, and sixteenth note.
Trimester Two (4 weeks)
Learn articulation (staccato, legato, and accent).
Learn about a fermata and a ritard.
Learn about the half note, whole note, and treble clef.
Learn solfege (so, mi).
Practice beat and rhythm.
Trimester Three (4 weeks)
Learn about classical music, jazz, and musical theater.
Learn about the base clef and the staff.
Learn solfege (so, mi, la).
Practice articulation exercises.
Practice beat and rhythm.
